In 2015 Sam Quinones published "Dreamland: The True Tale of America's Opiate Epidemic," which told the story of Portsmouth's role in the development of the epidemic. He took the book's name from Portsmouth's popular swimming pool, which was originally operated as a whites-only pool and youth recreation center. Following a successful non-violent direct action against the pool, the Terrace Club owners re-opened the pool in the summer of 1965 as an integrated facility and re-christened it "Dreamland."
