When the original wade-in failed to force an immediate integration of the Terrace Club and its pool, black youth organized a second direct action against the facility. The caption to the newspaper report in the Portsmouth Daily Times reads: “Demonstrators Removed. Portsmouth Police Chief Ted Wilburn begins removing some 40 Negro boys and girls from the Terrace Club Swimming Pool entrance after the youngsters participated in a brief sit-in.”
